Stewart & Stevenson IPC Pumpdown Data Acquisition

1. Hardware Setup

  1. Connect Hardware Components as shown in Figure 1:

    • USB to Serial Cable: Connect to the pumpdown laptop/computer running IPC.
    • Gray Null Modem Cable: Connect one end to the USB to Serial cable.
    • Serial to Ethernet Adapter: Connect the adapter to the Null Modem cable and ensure it’s plugged into power.
  2. Set Up Connectivity:

    • Wired Connection: Connect an Ethernet cable from the Serial to Ethernet adapter to a spare port on the router.
    • Wireless Connection:
      • Connect an Ethernet cable from the Serial to Ethernet adapter to the Access Point power adapter.
      • Connect another Ethernet cable from the Access Point to the POE port on the power adapter.
      • Position the Access Point facing the logger’s access point for optimal connectivity.

2. Pumpdown Computer Setup

  1. USB to Serial Cable Configuration:

    • Plug the USB to Serial cable into the pumpdown computer.
    • Open Device Manager > Ports and check the COM port for the USB Prolific device (Figure 2).Graphical user interface, text, application

    • If COM port is not listed: Install the necessary drivers.
  2. IPC Serial Setup:

    • Open the IPC software.
    • In the top Edit menu, click RS-232/RS-485 Serial Graphical user interface

    • Press Find Serial Ports.
    • In the Output Serial dropdown, select the COM port identified in Device Manager.
    • Parameters should now start streaming from IPC to the connected hardware.
    • Confirm the output port light in IPC turns green, and verify that TX/RX lights are blinking on the Serial to Ethernet adapter, indicating data transmission.A screenshot of a computer

3. Configure Dipole Pump Plugin on ZipVision/MaticAI Computer

  1. Open Dipole Pump Plugin:

    • Navigate to TCP IP Config(bottom left) and set:
      • Host IP: 10.0.0.2
      • Port: 90
    • Press Start Receiving to begin data reception.
  2. Validate Data Stream:

    • Confirm incoming values in the text boxes.
    • In the bottom-right table, check for Index | Value pairs.
    • If values are not separated, enter a comma in the Division Character field (bottom right).
    • If non-numeric characters appear: Adjust the baud rate on the Serial to Ethernet adapter (contact Dipole Support for assistance).
  3. Assign Parameters in Dipole Pump Plugin:

    • IPC typically outputs a large set of channels for each pump. Use the sample table for guidance (Figure 5).
    • Assign the appropriate index numbers to the relevant fields:
      • For example, if Index 1 is Pressure, enter 1 beside the Pressure field under Pump 1.
      • If Index 2 is Rate, enter 2 beside the Rate field under Pump 1.
    • Verify that pressure and rate values are visible in ZipVision/MaticAI.

Safety Note: Ensure secure hardware connections and verify COM port settings to prevent data transmission issues. Confirm access point placement for maximum connectivity.
