ERAD Pumpdown Data Acquisition Setup

1. Hardware Setup

  1. Connect Hardware Components as shown in Figure 1:

    • USB to Serial Cable: Connect this to the ERAD pumpdown laptop.
    • Gray Null Modem Cable: Attach one end to the USB to Serial cable.
    • Black Startech Serial to Ethernet Adapter: Plug into the Null Modem cable and ensure it’s powered on.
    • Access Point:
      • Connect an Ethernet cable from Startech to the LAN port on the power adapter.
      • Connect another Ethernet cable from the Access Point to the POE port on the power adapter.
      • Position Access Point facing logger’s access point to maximize connectivity.
  2. Verify COM Port for USB to Serial Cable:

    • On the ERAD laptop, open Device Manager > Ports and identify the COM port for the USB Prolific device.
    • If COM port is not listed: Install drivers for the USB to Serial cable.

2. Configure ERAD Output Settings on Pumpdown Laptop

  1. Open ERAD Software and configure output settings:

    • Set Baud Rate to 9600 (indicated by green check box).
    • Choose the COM Port identified in Device Manager as the I/O port.
    • Ensure both SP and TS options are selected and green.
  2. Verify Data Transmission:

    • Confirm that TX/RX lights on the Startech Serial to Ethernet Adapter are blinking, indicating data transmission.
  3. If data is not transmitting:

    • Verify all cable connections.
    • Confirm the baud rate on the Serial to Ethernet adapter matches the ERAD setting (check at 10.0.0.2 config page).
    • Troubleshoot further by:
      • Rebooting the pumpdown laptop.
      • Disconnecting and reconnecting the pumps, then restarting the laptop.

3. Configure Dipole Pump Plugin on MaticAI/ZipVision Computer

  1. Verify Access Point Connection:

    • Ensure the Access Point is connected and hardware is visible.
    • In a browser, try 10.0.0.2 to confirm connection.
    • If unable to connect: Use https://localhost:8043 (contact Dipole Support if assistance is needed).
    • Check Devices to ensure at least one logger access point is connected. Adopt or reposition access points as needed.
  2. Set Up Dipole Pump Plugin:

    • Open the Dipole Pump Pluginand configure:
      • Host IP: 10.0.0.2
      • Port: 90
    • Press Start Receiving to begin data reception.
  3. Validate Data Stream and Assign Indexes:

    • Confirm data is incoming by checking values in text boxes.
    • In the bottom-right table, check for Index | Value pairs.
    • If values are not separated, enter a comma in the Division Character field (bottom right).
    • Assign indexesto parameters:
      • For example, if Index 1 is Pressure, enter 1 in the pressure field for Pump 1.
      • If Index 2 is Rate, enter 2 in the rate field for Pump 1.
    • Pressure and rate values should now appear in MaticAI/ZipVision.

Safety Note: Ensure secure connections and correct COM port settings to prevent data interruptions. Verify access point alignment for optimal connectivity.
